Crab Island

Crab Island is Destin's most unique attraction and ranked #3 out of 14 things to do in Destin by U.S. News & World Report. It's not actually an island, but rather a massive underwater sandbar just north of the Destin Bridge where the water is only waist-deep, creating an incredible floating playground.

What to Expect: During peak season, Crab Island transforms into an aquatic paradise with hundreds of boats anchored in the crystal-clear emerald waters. You'll find floating food vendors selling everything from ice cream to boiled peanuts, water trampolines, inflatable slides, and people lounging on floats everywhere. The atmosphere ranges from family-friendly areas to livelier party zones - there's room for everyone!

How to Get There: Crab Island is only accessible by boat - no cars allowed! It's just a 5-7 minute boat ride from Destin Harbor, 10-15 minutes from Okaloosa Island, or 20-30 minutes from Fort Walton Beach. Options include renting a pontoon boat, joining a shuttle boat cruise ($30-50/person for 3-hour trips with onboard restrooms), booking a private charter, or riding jet skis or paddleboards.
