Best Restaurants in Destin

Local picks for seafood, waterfront dinners, family meals, and the breakfast spots worth waking up for.

Destin calls itself the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village," and the food scene backs that up. Charter boats bring fresh Gulf catch to the harbor restaurants daily, and the dining density around Destin Harbor and Miramar Beach is strong enough that you could eat somewhere different every night for two weeks and still have a list.

This guide skips the generic "top 50" approach and focuses on the restaurants we actually send guests to — organized by what kind of meal you're looking for.

Waterfront Seafood (The Main Event)

The harbor restaurants are the reason most visitors plan at least one big dinner out. These spots sit right on the water, most have outdoor patios overlooking the charter fleet, and the seafood is as fresh as it gets.

  • Boshamp's Oyster House — Gulf oysters, chargrilled grouper, and a sprawling outdoor patio with hammocks and dock fishing. Kids love it as much as adults.
  • The Back Porch — Directly on the beach. Grilled amberjack and the sunset view are the main draws. Get there before 6 PM to skip the wait.
  • Harbor Docks — A local institution since 1979. Sushi bar upstairs, fresh catch downstairs, and sashimi-grade tuna that rivals anything in a big city.
  • Dewey Destin's — No-frills, paper-plate-style seafood on the harbor. The fried grouper basket is the order. Cash only, long lines, worth it.

Upscale & Date Night

When you want a nicer meal — anniversary dinner, parents' night out, or just a break from flip-flops:

  • Vin'tij Wine Boutique & Bistro (Grand Boulevard) — Small-plate Mediterranean with one of the best wine lists on the coast.
  • Bijoux — Intimate fine dining with a French-Southern menu. Reservations essential. Easily the most polished meal in the area.
  • Brotula's Seafood House — Elevated waterfront seafood on Destin Harbor. The shrimp and grits and pan-seared snapper are standouts.
  • SunQuest Dinner Cruise — A full sit-down dinner on a yacht cruising through East Pass at sunset. Romantic and unique.
Casual beachside dining — families at picnic tables, tiki decor, live music

Casual & Family-Friendly

When you need good food, a relaxed vibe, and zero stress about the kids:

  • Fudpucker's — Burgers, gator bites, live music, and free Gator Beach where kids meet real alligators. A Destin rite of passage.
  • McGuire's Irish Pub — Massive steaks, homemade beer, and a million dollar bills stapled to the ceiling. Kids get a kick out of the atmosphere.
  • LuLu's Destin — Jimmy Buffett's sister's place. Sand floors, beach games, live music, and a kids' menu that actually works.
  • Landshark's Pizza — Huge slices, cold beer, and an arcade room in the back. The default "everyone's tired, let's just do pizza" pick.

Breakfast & Brunch

The breakfast game in Destin is quietly excellent:

  • The Donut Hole — The most famous breakfast in Destin. Lines out the door in summer, but the pancakes, omelets, and homemade pastries justify the wait.
  • Another Broken Egg (Grand Boulevard) — Upscale brunch with craft cocktails. The lobster and brie omelet is the move.
  • Harbor Docks — Most people know it for dinner, but their early-bird breakfast menu is a local secret.

Our Strategy

Here's the play we recommend to guests: cook breakfast and lunch at the rental (both our properties have full kitchens), then spend the restaurant budget on one great dinner out per night. Hit the Grand Boulevard Saturday Farmers Market for fresh produce and Gulf shrimp, and you can eat like a local for half the cost of dining out every meal.

Stay Close to the Food

Both of our rentals are within 10-15 minutes of every restaurant on this list — with full kitchens for the meals in between.
