About this event
Panama City Beach goes full buccaneer for three swashbuckling days each fall. The Pirates of the High Seas & Renaissance Fest is one of the Gulf Coast's most theatrical and family-friendly free festivals, combining staged pirate battles, a full pirate invasion of the shore, live mermaid shows, and nightly fireworks with the swords, whips, and enchanted marketplace of a classic Renaissance fair.
Families will love the kid-friendly parade, treasure drops, face painting, and photo ops with the festival's cast of costumed characters. Adults can explore the pirates' pub, catch fire circus performances, and shop dozens of artisan and vendor booths. The whole festival is free to attend, making it easy to pop in for an afternoon or go all-in for the full weekend.
The event celebrates the legendary Gulf pirate Dominique Youx and his krewe through storytelling, staged battles, and plenty of dramatic flair. Held near Pier Park in the heart of Panama City Beach, it's a natural day-trip from Destin or Miramar Beach — about an hour's drive east — and well worth the trip for the sheer spectacle of it all.
Best for: Families with kids, couples looking for a quirky adventure, and anyone who loves theatrical outdoor festivals
What to expect: Pirate invasion, staged battles, live mermaids, fire circus, fireworks, kid parade, treasure drop, Renaissance marketplace, vendors, and a pirates pub
Planning tip: About an hour east of Destin via US-98; the event is free so no advance tickets needed — just show up and join the fun
Cost: Free admission; food, drinks, and select experiences purchased separately
