The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra kicks off its landmark 40th Anniversary Season with a breathtaking program built around two of classical music most emotionally charged masterworks. Pianist Stewart Goodyear — one of today most celebrated international soloists — joins the NFSO for Beethoven luminous Piano Concerto No. 4, a work of singular grace and poetry. Alongside it, Andor Hailstork bold Fanfare brings a contemporary American voice to the stage, setting the scene for Tchaikovsky towering Symphony No. 5, a journey from shadow to triumph.
The Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville is one of Northwest Florida finest concert venues, with exceptional acoustics and an intimate atmosphere that puts you close to the music in a way few halls can match. An October evening here — cool sea air, a full orchestra in full cry, and one of the world great pianists — is the kind of memory you carry home from a vacation.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $16 for youth. This is a dressy-casual night out that rewards the effort — the NFSO consistently earns standing ovations and this season opener is primed to be one of their finest nights yet. A 25-minute drive from Destin makes it a very doable evening excursion.
