Trade the beach bonfire for a billion stars — a magical astronomy evening in a serene Florida state park.

17:30 – 20:30
181 Eden Gardens Rd, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459

As the Gulf Coast sun dips below the horizon, Eden Gardens State Park transforms into one of the most magical settings on the Emerald Coast. Members of the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association set up an impressive array of telescopes on the park lawn, inviting visitors to gaze at distant galaxies, star clusters, and planets with expert guidance and hands-on access to professional equipment.

Setup begins just before sunset, giving families and astronomy newcomers time to explore the telescopes and chat with knowledgeable astronomers before darkness falls. Once night arrives, the skies open up in spectacular fashion — far from city light pollution, this serene historic park reveals a star-studded canopy that's impossible to experience from the beach.

Whether you're a lifelong stargazer or you've never looked through a telescope, this nearly free evening event is a perfect change of pace from the usual vacation activities. Pack bug spray, dress for cooler evening temperatures, and bring a blanket to lay on the grass. The event is weather permitting, so check ahead before heading out.
